Want to Know the Main Reason You Aren't Losing Weight?

The main reason which prevents most people from losing weight is ENDLESS procrastination.

Most people tell themselves, they start their diet "next week" or "after the holidays" or "when their schedule at work calms down". And the end result is that they stay fat.

The Truth of the Matter is....

The truth is that it doesn't matter what month it is. ...And it doesn't matter what time of year it is either........ .since it's foolish to wait until a particular month to get slim. Why would you want to remain overweight until some future "month" or "time of year"? Getting slim allows you to wear more attractive (and better fitting) clothes right now..........and that feeling is very worthwhile.

Take Out Your Calendar

Okay, circle today's date. Then count ahead 11 days and circle that day too. That is the day that you could be 9lbs lighter. That day will be coming very fast, so why not be slimmer on that day? Every journey begins with taking that first step.............and if you never take that first step then you'll never have a thinner and more attractive body.

Take the first step to a new, thinner, healthier YOU!

Helping an Overweight Child

If you have an overweight child, he is she will probably fall into one of two very distinct categories - the outgoing extrovert that makes jokes at his own expense about his weight - it's a way of beating others to the punch; or a very painfully shy and introverted child. Either way - your child is probably unhappy and certainly not healthy.

First and foremost, you want your child to be healthy with being happy right up there in importance. Since you control the majority of your child's meals, start taking charge of what he has for breakfast. Instead of a high fat meal, let him have fresh fruits and whole grain cereals for breakfast. If time is short in the morning you can put steel cut oats in a slowcooker overnight or in a pan and since it's a whole grain, there is no fat and he can eat enough to be comfortably full. This way he won't feel deprived. If he wants a sweetened cereal (and coming off processed sugars will entail a lot of cravings); try stevia, it's 30 times sweeter than sugar so a little goes a long, long way, completely natural and has no calories. Agave syrup made from the agave plant is a very yummy substitute for fattening maple syrup and he can still have pancakes occasionally. Instead of using an almost zero-nutrition mix, opt for making whole grain pancakes. They are heavier and infinitely more satisfying.

Instead of letting your child buy his lunches at school, pack him off with a healthy lunch. He may not like it too much at first but talk to him straight about the health consequences of being overweight and instead of saying,"I want you in a size so and so", say to your child, "I want you healthy" and he won't feel bad about himself, instead he'll see it as a challenge to get healthy.

You're in command of dinner too. Don't opt for processed empty calories for dinner. Instead be good to yourself and your family and put together some meals that include low fat, high protein choices and have at least two vegetable choices - steamed or with spices - skip the butter and learn to enjoy the real tastes of vegetables - you'll be amazed at how satisfying it is.

For snacks, opt for fresh fruit and try to only eat snacks that are one gram of fat per serving or less. Aim to keep your total fat grams under 20 grams per day and you'll see a big difference quickly. Fresh fruits, vegetable and whole grains have zero grams of fat so you and your kids can eat enough of those foods to feel comfortably full without fear of over eating.

Also, get your child moving. The number one reason children are overweight is because they eat loads of processed foods and then sit for hours in front of the television, computer or video game screen. Get your kids out for at least 30 minutes a day and walk around the block, walk in a park, jog, ride bikes or otherwise get your bodies moving.

These simple tips will help get your child to a healthy weight and start a lifestyle that includes watching your weight and staying healthy from now on!

Juicers Really Aren't That Great for You

You've probably been flipping around on your television late at night or in the wee hours and caught one of the many infomercials, advertising the benefits and extolling the virtues of juicers. Somehow when a celebrity is selling a juicer, it's somehow slightly better for you! Some of the claims are a little over the top in that juicing can cure cancer and other maladies. If that were actually the truth, well cancer wouldn't be such rampant problem nor such a big business.

Truth be known, there is strong evidence that eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables can cut your risk of heart attack as well as many types of cancer. However there is no compelling research that shows that drinking juice over eating the actual fruits and veggies has extra benefits. In fact, the part that is a big black mark for juicers in my book is that juicing removes the valuable fiber from your fruits and veggies and as we all know, fiber is paramount to helping fight colon cancer and many other types of cancer. Additionally, fiber helps lower cholesterol, prevent gall bladder disease and of course, that common scourge of a low-fiber diet - constipation.

Calorie-wise juicing isn't a winner either. An 8-ounce glass of orange juice averages 110-calories while a whole, delicious orange has only 65 calories and has that famous fiber to boot which will make you feel more full.

So if you've been struggling on your weight loss or weight maintenance plan and you've been juicing - watch those calories - you may be adding more than you think.

Eat Fewer Calories or Burn More Fat?

If you're researching weight loss or weight management programs - you'll come to a fork in the road and you'll have to choose a path - you'll either need to walk the road of calorie management or you'll take the slightly more traveled road of fat burning.

Ephedra is a derivative from the Chinese plant Ma Huang and until a few years ago was a major ingredient in many diet pills. It gave the body a jump start and actually made the body burn fat - this is a big plus for weight loss. However the down side is, it wasn't the answer for everyone and a number of people found out the hard way that frequent ingestion of ephedra can damage the heart. The Food and Drug Administration ruled that ephedra wasn't safe and prohibited the sale of any product containing it. Hydroxycut was the fat burner that ruled until the ephedra ban. They re-did their formula using safe ingredients and still have a good market share because of their former reputation as the fat burner to beat.

The ephedra ban brought many of us back to start and we started counting calories again. For many people, weight loss or weight management plans where you have to keep track of your calories or assign everything you eat points or something like Richard Simmon's "Deal-a-Meal" cards - those just don't work for some people as they find them very difficult to keep up with, and feel demoralized if they eat more than their how much they perceive the calories they are "allowed" every day.

Keeping a weight loss diary is very helpful for many people. One reason many of us are overweight in the first place is because we don't really pay attention to all we eat. When you're in the kitchen and the phone rings, you may absentmindedly grab a handful of chips, munch on donuts from that morning, or otherwise mince. What you may not realize is that you managed to consume several hundred calories but since you were otherwise occupied - you may not have been paying attention to the actual amount you ate. It's so helpful to keep a pen and very small pad of paper in your pocket or nearby and just jot down when you eat and roughly how much and what you ate.

Alli has been getting a lot of hype too as the ultimate answer for weight loss. It's actually the drug Orlistat in an over the counter form. Basically, it blocks the human body from absorbing fats and passes them through the system. When combined with a reduced calorie diet - Alli has been getting great results.

What works best for you? Counting calories or fat burners? Or do you use a combination of both?
Leave a comment - we'd love to hear it!
